OBITUARY

Dennis Leroy Sluyter "Coach"

3 February, 1945 – 17 September, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes

Dennis Leroy Sluyter "Coach", born on February 3, 1945, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 16, 2024. Dennis was a man who cherished the great outdoors, spending countless hours boating, fishing, mushroom hunting, and camping. His love for camping evolved over the years—from humble tents to a cozy fifth wheel with a fireplace—but the essence of those experiences remained the same: being with family and embracing nature.

A proud Williamston Hornet, Dennis dedicated 31 years to coaching JV football and girls’ softball, with his daughters often participating on the teams he led. His passion for coaching fostered a special bond with his family, as they shared in the joy of the games together.

Dennis was a funny, loving Christian man whose greatest joy came from being with his beloved wife, Connie, of 56 years, and their daughters, Denise (Christopher) Bennett, Christine (John) Agueros, and Tracy Sluyter. He adored his grandchildren, Emilee and Christian Bennett, Jacob, Chloe, and Jonathon Agueros, Ashleigh McIntyre, Chelsea Cooper, and Miley Sluyter, and his cherished cat, Cobie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Sterling Sluyter, his brother, Gary Sluyter, and his faithful dog companion, Tally. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

A memorial service will be held on November 16, 2024 at Spags Bar and Grill 1268 E Grand River Ave, Williamston, MI from 2pm until 5pm with a time of sharing at 3.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dennis may be made to the Dementia Society or the Williamston Football Program. Dennis will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family and community.
