

Dorothy was born July 7, 1927, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Herbert L. Knapp and Dorothy (Taylor) Knapp. She graduated from Dimondale High School in 1944, and was married to the late Warren D Potter, Jr. in 1946. They had 4 children together. Dorothy worked for the Michigan Dept. of Health for over 20 years, and retired in 1990. For the last ten years she spent her winters in Bradenton, Florida, but always returned to Lansing for the summers.
Dorothy was a very social and very optimistic person. Most of her life she was blessed with good health. She was a world traveler; visiting every continent in the world, save for Antarctica. Dorothy was an expert Bridge player, and a fiercely competitive game player; whether it be cards or board games, it mattered not. She always enjoyed entertaining others, and her parties were very popular. Everyone who knew her loved her. She will be sadly missed by many friends and family around the globe.
Dorothy is survived by her companion Paul Kemper of Bradenton, FL and Muscatine, IA; children Sue (Steven) Hadden of Vulcan, Michigan; Jerry (Lorraine) Potter, of Bradenton, Florida; Laura Potter of Lansing, Michigan; and Scott (Cappy) Potter of Traverse City, Michigan; her 8 grandchildren, James Hadden, Mark (Erin) Hadden, Angela (Ray) Braithwood, Abigail Potter, Anna Potter, Ashley (Brian) Grafstrom, Kristina (Kyle) Duckworth, and Joseph Potter; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 12:30 P.M. in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W Saginaw St, Lansing. The family will receive visitors at noon to 12:30 P.M. Saturday. Internment will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be sent in Dorothy's name to the ALS Association (www.alsa.org) or other preferred charity.
Dorothy Jean ("Dottie") Potter passed away on April 11, 2016 in Bradenton, Florida after a short but courageous battle with ALS.
