Ed was born on October 26, 1939 in Lansing, Michigan, to Fred and Lela Heath. He graduated from high school in Lansing before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. He later met the love of his life, Ladelia, and the two were married at Bethel Baptist Church in Jackson. Together they shared 49 and a half loving years of marriage until her passing in 2019.
Ed dedicated many years of hard work to the Fisher Body plant in Lansing and later retired from General Motors in 2004. Though he worked tirelessly throughout his career, his greatest commitment was always to his faith, his church, and the work of the Lord.
A devoted member of Hope Baptist Church since 1988, Ed was a church charter member and faithfully served as a deacon. He was known as a faithful servant of the Lord, deeply committed to the ministry of the church and to sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others.
Ed also enjoyed puzzle games, Rubik’s Cubes, brain teasers, and sharing dad jokes. His quick mind, steady faith, and gentle humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin (Bill) Heath and Brian (Meryl) Heath; grandchildren, Olivia, Silas, Isaac, Sophia, and Micah; sister, Dora; and his niece, Pamela. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ladelia; daughter, Danielle; siblings, Carl, Richard, and Marge; and his parents.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the University of Michigan Sparrow Hospice team for their compassionate care, especially during the final six weeks of Ed’s life.
