Freddie “Nana” Sue Slocum, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Lansing, Michigan, on October 15th, 2025, and went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Freddie was born on November 27th, 1953, to Andrew and Margie Burke in Pikeville, Kentucky.
Freddie retired from General Motors after more than 30 years of dedicated work, where she formed lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. A devout Christian, she was a longtime member of Mt. Hope Church in Lansing and lived her life with faith, grace, and love.
Those who knew Freddie will remember her bright spirit and joyful heart. She loved to travel and loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. She loved to dance, sing, and laugh till she cried. To her family, she was simply “Nana”—the heart of the family, the one who made every gathering special, and the constant reminder that family always comes first.
Freddie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jimmy Tackitt. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Lupe) Montalvo and Derek (Jessica) Slocum; her brothers, Hobert Burke and Swift Burke; and her grandchildren, Ajah Montalvo, Julyssa Manty, Dylan Slocum, Phoenix Montalvo, and Jace Slocum, all of whom adored their Nana. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Josie, who never left her side. She is also survived by many cousins, friends, and extended family who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823, on October 20, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on October 21, 2025, at 11:00 am at the same location, with family receiving friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery, 2500 Mt Hope Rd, Okemos, MI 48864.
