

In 1950, she married Roger G. Toebe and moved to Lansing, where she lived the rest of her life. They had 3 daughters, and she was active in school activities and was a Girl Scout leader. When the girls were grown, she worked for the State of Michigan. In 1989, she retired from the Department of Social Services.
After retirement, she and her husband spent many winters in Fountain Hills, Arizona. She enjoyed hiking, golf, playing bridge, and reading.
Helen was a volunteer for over 35 years at St. Lawrence Hospital. She worked in the gift shop, and was a buyer and floral designer. She was a member and officer of the Michigan State Bridge Club, and was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lansing. She also volunteered at the Delta Library.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, her daughters Susan A. Klein (Steven) and Janet M. Sawgle (Tracy); grandchildren Laura Phillips (Jeremy), Kelly Gosselin, Jennifer Silveus (Clint), Lisa Klein and Trent Sawgle; great-grandchildren Lincoln Phillips, Harper Phillips, and Claire Silveus. Helen was predeceased by her daughter Debra J. Spalding in 2003 and her grandson Andrew Spalding in 1995.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 23, 2026 at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W. Saginaw, with visitation from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
