Loving husband, father and grandfather, Henry Charles Pratt passed away Monday, January 9, 2012. Born in 1936 to Minnie and A. Henry Pratt, “Hank” was raised in Byron Center, Michigan. He left to attend Michigan Agricultural College in 1954. Soon after beginning college he enlisted in military service, serving in the United States Army for two years. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator where he received a Medal of Good Conduct. After protecting our country, he returned to complete his education and graduated from Michigan State University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Education degree.
His love for others and the outdoors led him to employment at the YMCA from 1962 to 1969 serving at the Haslett Parkwood and Traverse City branches for seven years. After securing his realtor license, Hank’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase the Moon Lake Campground and Resort in Laingsburg, Michigan. He owned and managed this successful business for more than 30 years, balancing the realities of owning a business along with finding the good in everyone he worked alongside. During this time he touched many people, making a positive and profound difference in their lives. Retiring in 2007, he enjoyed gardening, traveling and the love and joy of his family during the last few years.
Hank is survived by his wife Margaret of 50 years; sister Hazel (Darwin) Cutler of Caledonia, Michigan; brothers Thomas (Linda) Pratt of Peyton, Colorado and Donald (Lynne) Pratt of Huntington Woods, Michigan; daughters Lynne (James) Fortune of Laingsburg, Michigan; Maryann (Dennis) Louney of Lansing, Michigan; Carol (Dennis) Hart of Lillian, Alabama; and Elizabeth Pratt of Foley Alabama.
