Mom would often tell us stories of her childhood: Dolly the horse who pulled the cart carrying glass milk bottles (giving Dolly all the sugar from home even though it was rationed) she so loved horses! The Monkey was another good one.
Mom was hard working, honest, and caring. She loved people & animals. She was also thrifty. She could knit, sew, crochet, paint, write & illustrate children's books for her students (she was a teacher's aide 25+ years).
Mom was an excellent cook & baker. One day each month she would bake the entire day: breads,
cakes, pies, rolls. Banana Nut Bread hot out the oven with a slab of butter is pure heaven! Her apple pies and peanut butter cookies are legend. Our house became THE place to be that day! Dad would always sneak into the kitchen and rip off the end of a loaf of bread.
Mom went to Walter French High School then later to Lansing Eastern where she met and eventually married the love of her life: our dad, Clifford. They were married 56 years, and had their share of good & bad times, ups & downs but they stayed the course. A lot of that had to do with mom's sense of humor: sharp & quick, off the wall, fall down funny. She was a whiz at cards, and walked 100 miles an hour everywhere.
Mom taught us a lot of life lessons growing up: how to be responsible, independent, hard working, honest, set your mind to it and do it. Mom was the glue that held this family together. Her wish is that we continue to be there for each other. We may never agree 100% on things and that's okay. Mom loved the differences in each of us. One thing I always remembered mom saying was: " Try it at least once, you won't know you like/dislike it unless you try it," and "Family comes first."
Mom is survived by 3 children: Cliff, Sue, and Jim; 11 grandchildren: Chris, Jeremy C, Jon, Janelle, Dustin, Jeremy F, Liz,Matthew, Michael, Marcus, Tessa; and 9 great grandchildren.
We love you beyond words Mom.
Till we meet again,
Your Daughter
