She was born in Galion, Ohio, February 9, 1947, and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio University in Athens. Following graduation she worked briefly in the commercial foods and hospitality industries. Soon she found her dream job, combining food and journalism, as a Food Editor for the Phoenix (Arizona) Gazette.
In 1989, seeking the challenge of new adventures, she moved to Michigan working in the cherry industry until she set out on her own as an independent editor and writer working under contract, mostly with Michigan State University.
Her friends and colleges will remember her as an avid fan of Michigan State football and basketball.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Allen Lietwiler and Ernestine Jane (Kelly) Lietwiler, and her brother, Philip Lietwiler.
Those surviving to cherish her memory include her husband, Leland A. Depriest; two brothers, Thomas (Sharon) Lietwiler and Mark Lietwiler; a niece, three nephews and two great-nieces.
Not wanting a large funeral, a small grave side service for family will be held at River Cliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead, Ohio. For those desiring, contributions may be made in memory of Jane to Heartland Hospice Care, 865 South Cedar Street, Mason, Michigan 48854.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.grlansing.com.
