Laura M. Turrill, 94, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away October 5, 2014. She was born on September 5, 1920 to the late Floyd and Hazel (Magley) Phillips at her family home on Drury Lane in Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from Eastern High School, where she enjoyed participating in choir and gymnastics. Laura grew up on New York Avenue and resided in Lansing all her life. She retired from the Ingham County Friend of the Court Office, where she served as Executive Secretary for many years. Laura was also a member of Towar Hart Baptist Church. In her leisure time, she loved swing dancing with the love of her life, Bill Turrill, and Big Band music. Laura was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and she will be dearly missed.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William, whom she called “My Bill.” Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Patti (Ron) Curtiss, Susan (Bob) Boughner, and Micki (Greg) Shetterly; grandchildren, Bill (Kathleen) Curtiss, Kristy (Tom) Butz, Jeff (Debi) Shetterly, Laurie (Rich) Boyd, Shane (Eryn) Curtiss, and Joe (Rhonda) Shetterly; twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Kenneth L. Ridge will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Towar Hart Baptist Church, 6157 Towar Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823. Interment will take place immediately following the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing, Michigan. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912 and one hour prior to the service at Towar Hart Baptist Church. Her loved ones were asked to describe Laura in one word and their responses were: gracious, loving, considerate, selfless, and hospitable. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
