Laverne Devries went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 11, 2015. A loving wife of 45 years to Neal, mother of 4 sons (Dave, Steve, Ray Castelein, and Dan DeVries), grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, sister (Joan and Ray), friend, and cancer survivor. No one label can describe the vibrancy, strength, and grace of this petite Southern girl. Born in 1930 in Marked Tree, Arkansas and moved to Lansing, Michigan in the mid 1940’s where she lived the remainder of her life. She is survived by husband, sons, grand and great grandchildren throughout the nation. Her strength and commitment has allowed her to be a valued member of Discover Life church for over 40 years, developing relationships and being instrumental in the giving outreach of its ministries. She also maintained relationships with “The Gier gals”, her friends for over 60 years. Beating breast cancer she showed how strong and resilient her body and spirit were. Generously loving her family, while being greatly loved, Laverne was the epicenter of many family activities. Her unfillable void will be acutely felt and her unmistakable spirit will be greatly missed.
