Michael was called home by his Heavenly Father on November 11, 2010. He was born October 28, 1923 in Canton Twp, MI to Luke and Ioma Finnerty.
After graduating from Tustin High School, Mike joined the U.S. Army during WWII and served from 1943 to 1946. He then began his lifelong career in the cross-country gas pipeline industry. He finally retired in 2004 at the young age of 81. He truly enjoyed his line of work and travel, and people he met along the way.
He was a loving husband to Norma Jean, his wife of 62 years; loving father to sons William, Timothy, James, David (Linda), and Patrick (Kim) Finnerty; daughters, Sue Slater, Cathleen (Mike) Patino, Karen (Tommy) Gunter and Bridget (Gary) Lilly; legendary grandfather to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; beloved Pa-Pa to great-great-granddaughter, MaKayla; brother to Robert (Marion) Finnerty, Irene Loomis, and Joyce (R. Lee) Salisbury; and uncle to multiple nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Harold, Barney, Joe, Bill, and Jim; son-in-law, Jim Pruitt; and grandchildren, John, Robert, and Jessica.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing with Fr. John P. Klein officiating. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with a 7:30 PM Rosary service at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw Street, Lansing, and one hour prior to mass at church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michael?s name to Oates Morley VFW Post 701 or the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan through the funeral home.
