It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Anthony Melton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Paul was born on June 14, 1970, in Lansing, Michigan, to Jean Melton, and departed this life on January 8, 2026, in Alma, Michigan at the age of 55.
Paul was a very loving man, and he married his beloved wife of 5 years, Crystal, on October 13, 2020 in Niagara Falls. A devoted father, Paul’s world revolved around his children: Sarah, Justin, Jacob, Melinda, and Hannah. Each child held a special place in his heart, and he was especially crazy about his granddaughter, Raelynn Szukhent. The love he had for his family was immeasurable, and he took every opportunity to express it. Paul often made the small moments count, whether it was sharing laughter with Hannah, teasing each other with affectionate jabs, or taking midnight runs with his dog Maggie to indulge in donuts and Taco Bell.
Paul’s educational journey began at Everett High School, followed by further studies at Lansing Community College. He later found himself at Traffic Management, Inc. in Southfield, where he humorously claimed he was "paid to yell at people" while directing traffic. His personality and contagious laughter made him a joy to be around, whether at home or at work.
Music was a significant part of Paul’s life. A dedicated fan of Iron Maiden, he loved attending concerts, often sharing these unforgettable experiences with his son, Justin. Sports were another passion, as he was an avid supporter of the Cowboys, Detroit Tigers, and Spartans. His enthusiasm for sports would often be heard throughout the house whenever a game was on.
Paul was a loving man whose legacy will continue through everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Crystal Melton; his children, Sarah Melton, Justin Melton, Jacob Melton, Melinda Melton, and Hannah (Seth) Szukhent; his granddaughter, Raelyn Szukhent; his siblings, Annie, Annette, Jimmy, Roy, Glen, and Glenda; stepsiblings, Ruthann, Johnny, Tina, Michelle, and Vicky; his close friend Dorlaina Coil; and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Melton, and his stepsisters, Susie and Brenda.
A celebration of Paul’s life will take place on Wednesday, January 14th, at 4:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, located at 900 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912. A visitation will be held prior to the service, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The family invites those who wish to donate in Paul’s name to consider donating to the American Heart Association at: https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give.
