Ralph went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2010, after a lengthy illness; born June 15, 1943 to Mattie Braxton Abbott and Ralph Abbott (deceased). He received his bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University and his masters from MSU. He was a longtime member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He loved his church, Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church where he served in the Male Chorus, the Tutorial and Scholarship committee, as well as a trustee and associate minister under the late Rev. J. E. Graves. He was also an active member of the Lansing Ministerial Alliance under Rev. Climmie Hughes. He was a kind and generous man who greatly loved his children as well as all people and firmly espoused education. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Joy; his beloved daughters, Lori Abbott-Smith (Jim), and Leslie Abbott (Riley); son, Ralph Abbott III (Dolly); sister, Charlotte Bradley; grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Miles, and Keira; niece, nephew and a host of cousins. A special thanks to his caregivers, JoAnn Spencer-Taylor and family and Ida Lloyd and family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 10:00 AM at Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church, 10575 Krepps Road, DeWitt, MI with Pastor Levi McClendon, III officiating. Interment will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
