

Richard Clarence Keeney, 94, of Lansing, our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 27, 2017 under the care of his family and hospice. Richard was born on January 2, 1923 in Lansing, the son of Roy and Bernice (Dibble) Keeney.
Richard is a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in General Patton’s 3rd Army where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and earned three battle stars. He was employed for 35 years by Oldsmobile, retiring in 1980. An avid golfer, Richard had five holes in one over his lifetime, a feat not accomplished by many, he also loved dancing with his wife, he is a life member of VFW post #701, Moose Lodge #288 and the Eagles #1039. On October 8, 2008, Richard was flown to Washington D.C. as part of the Freedom Honor Flight which helps World War II veterans travel to see the World War II Memorial.
Richard is survived by his children; Nancy (William) Houghtaling, Suzanne (Glen) DePew, Gary (Sheri) Keeney, his grandchildren; William Houghtaling, Jr, Richard Houghtaling, Amy (David) Howe, Justin DePew, Jeremy (Teresa) DePew, Samantha (Neil) Smith, David (Christie) Keeney; seven great grandchildren; Emily Howe, Grace Howe, Jason DePew, Erin DePew, Cameron Bermani, Elliott Smith, Nellie Keeney, along with many friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Nellie, who passed away in 2009; and stepfather James Roberts, sisters; Norma Hopkins, and Geraldine Stage.
Private graveside services with Military Honors will be held at a later date, final interment will be next to his wife in Glendale Cemetery. For those desiring, contributions in memory of Richard may be directed to the Salvation Army 525 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lansing, MI 48912.
