

Ruth, 91, passed away on May 5, 2013. She was born to Wilfred and Edith Sterzik on May 30, 1921 in Petoskey, MI. Ruth married Robert Hosley in 1964 and he preceded her in death in 2005. Also preceding Ruth in death were her parents; siblings, Donald (Alice), Karl (Kathryn), Alden, Lt. Col. Wilfred Jr., and Dolores (Herman) Rasch. Survivors include several living in Michigan, her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Diane Barrett of Perry; grandson, Jeffrey Barrett of DeWitt; granddaughter, Julie (John) Truskowski and great-grandchilden, Annabella and Sebastian Truskowski of Clarkston; and those living in California, step-children, James Hosley (Sara Jane Hawthorne), Joan (Mac) McPherson, Robert Hosley (Marsha Peratta), Kerry Beth Hosley (Henry Smith III); step-grandchildren, Lesley (Nicholas), Kathryn, Zaya (Alicia) and Eleanor; step-great grandchildren, Sophia, Nicholas and Emma. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Irene Sterzik and Valerie Sterzik of Petoskey; along with many special nieces and nephews. Ruth will be remembered as a “sweet lady”, and a loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She especially enjoyed time with immediate family and extended Sterzik and Hosley family members. Ruth was an accomplished card player and enjoyed many long time friendships with her bridge groups. She and Bob also traveled throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, along with long weekends at their cottage on Houghton Lake, and visiting relatives in Petoskey. She worked for 29 years for the State of Michigan, retiring in 1980 from the Municipal Finance Commission, Department of Treasury. Special thanks to Ruth’s longtime physician, Dr. Elisabeth Alexander and her nurses and assistants; and staff of the Marquette, Tender Hearts Personal Care, McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital, Burcham Hills Rehabilitation and Memory Care Units, Great Lakes Hospice; and Burcham Hills Medical Director Dr. Dennis Perry and his staff. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 10th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing with Pastor Charles Krueger officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 9th at the funeral home.
