Sandi was born on July 26, 1956, in Lansing, Michigan, to Richard and Catherine Cantrell. She married Don Symonds on April 21, 1979, and together they built a life centered on love, family and community. Sandi graduated from East Lansing High School in 1974, continued her education with a associates degree from Lansing Community College and dedicated 20 years of service as a sales representative at Crossmark. After retirement there was nothing more precious than spending her days with her grandkids.
A lifelong resident of Grand Ledge, Sandi found joy in being a wife, mother and nana. She loved cheering on her favorite Michigan State teams as an avid MSU fan but dearly loved watching her kids and grandkids play soccer. She was devoted to the Grand Ledge Soccer club for more than 15 years. Active in the PTO and other school activities while her children attended school. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, contagious laugh and ability to love everyone.
Sandi's heart belonged to her family, and loving them was the greatest joy of her life. She devoted herself to creating memories that would last forever- planning family dinners, camping trips, birthdays, vacations, holidays, and pool days that brought everyone together. To Sandi, these moments were everything. She treasured every laugh, every hug, every kiss, and every "I love you". Her love for her family was endless and unconditional, and she had a beautiful way of making everyone feel like they belonged. When Sandi was present, you felt it- her warmth, her joy, and the deep love she had for the people who meant the most to her. Family was her world, and she filled it with a love that will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Sandi is survived by her husband of 46 years, Don Symonds of Grand Ledge; her children, Nick Symonds, Chris Symonds (Sarah Symonds), and Kim Schultz; her grandkids, Evelyn, Lucas, Addison and Ila; step-grandkids, Rachel and Aiden; her sister, Linda Link and several beloved nieces including Heather, Allison, Meredith, Tara, Julie, Bonnie, Kellie and Erin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Catherine Cantrell; her aunt, Mary Lou Conlin; and her brother-in-law, Steven Link.
A memorial service will be held with visitation from 9am to 11am and formal service at 11am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home (3232 W Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48917) on Saturday April 25, 2026. Luncheon to follow (details to be determined).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, honoring Sandi's love for animals.
Sandi's life can be summed up in three words: loving, devoted, and family-centered.
