Shirley Kay Burns

Age 72, passed away November 6, 2013 with her loving husband and girls at her side. She was born March 2, 1941 in Grand Rapids, MI. Shirley graduated from St Thomas in Ann Arbor in 1959. She moved to Grand Rapids where she met and married Michael Burns in 1963. She retired from the Lansing School District in 1994. She was a long time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Ruth Chapman, sister-in-law Jean Ann Schafer, brother-in-law Ron Burns & sister-in-law Betty Burns. She is survived by her husband of 50 years Michael, her daughters Karen (Clark) Alling, Laura (Kevin) Carbary, grandchildren Kimberlie and Michael Alling, Justin and Kylie Carbary & great granddaughter Lillianna Garnsay. She is also survived by sister Patricia Williams, brother Bob (Karen) Chapman, brother-in-law Carol (Diane) Burns, sister-in-law Rosemary (Jim) Blashill, brother-in-law Norm (Jeanne) Burns & many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 11:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 3815 South Cedar, Lansing MI 48910 with the family greeting friends 1 hour prior to start of service. Also, visitation will be on Monday November 11, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing MI 48912 with a rosary at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to American Heart Association, Memorials and Tributes Lockbox, 3816 Paysphere Circle Chicago, IL 60674 or Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
