Sterling was born November 2, 1939 in Scott, Arkansas and was the son of Ferdie and Louise (Williams) Crutcher. He served in the US Army and retired in 1998 from the Michigan Department of Transportation after 25 years of service. Sterling was also a brick mason and was a skilled wood craftsman who loved working with wood. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Linda D.; daughter, Crystal (Danny) Crutcher-McDaniel; son, Sterling T. (Margaret Littles) Crutcher; 6 grandchildren, Felisha, Tieran, Javon, Lin-Asia, Marshay, Jayla; 3 sisters, Shirley Potter, Jacqueline (Ron) Cotton, Phyllis Shay; 3 brothers, Rapheal (Shirey) Crutcher, J.B. (Cora) Crutcher, Robert (Mila Rose) Crutcher; and his many nieces and nephews. Sterling was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruthie James; 2 brothers, Richard and Dennis Crutcher. Open viewing will be held 2-4PM and 6-8PM Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 West Saginaw, Lansing, 48917. The funeral service will be held 1PM Thursday at Tiffany Funeral Home with the family hour from 12PM-1PM. Rev. Lester Stone of Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Interment and military honors will be held 1PM Friday, February 1, 2008 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Foundation in memory of Sterling.
