Jim retired in 1986 from the General Motors Parts Warehouse with over 30 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #1753. He was a member of St. Gerard Church. Jim was skilled in automobile and home repairs. He enjoyed motorcycling, boating, fishing, and collecting and restoring antique radios.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William ?Vito? and Rose I. Amato; Brother, William ?Bill? Amato; 2 sisters, Rose Kemery, and Josephine Heath. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Carolanne Amato; 5 children, Bruce S. Amato, June Marie Amato, Gail Ann (Tim) Graham, twin sons, Jim Victor (Bernice) Amato, and Tim Vincent Amato; 10 grandchildren, Crystal & Ryan Horvath, Amber Amato, Jason, Mitch, & Rachel Graham, Mike Herrick, Angie, Jimmy, & Lisa Amato; 5 great-grandchildren, Ian, Emma, Micha, Aurora ?Kathy?, and Meadow; sister, Jeanette Lapinski, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation is from 2-4, 6-8 P.M. Monday with a 7:00 P.M. Monday Vigil Service in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Liturgy is 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 6, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, with Fr. Prabhu Lakra presiding. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Tuesday at church.
