

Virgil Dean Romig, 96, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on March 19, 1929, in Hutchinson, Kansas, Virgil lived a long and full life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Virgil proudly served his country during the Korean War, spending two years stationed in Korea and Japan. His time in the military was a defining chapter of his early adulthood and reflected his enduring sense of duty and resilience.
Following his service, Virgil built a successful career as a drywall contractor. Known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship, he took pride in his trade and contributed to countless homes and buildings throughout his working years.
Beyond his professional life, Virgil had a passion for raising quarter horses—a pursuit that brought him great joy over many years. His love for horses remained strong well into his later years; he last rode on his 90th birthday, a testament to his enduring spirit and vitality.
Family was at the heart of Virgil’s world. He was a devoted father who spent countless hours supporting his children at swim meets and dance recitals. His presence at these events spoke volumes about the importance he placed on being there for those he loved.
Virgil also found peace and camaraderie in fishing trips with friends, especially those taken to Canada. These moments of quiet reflection and shared laughter were among the many ways he embraced life’s pleasures.
He is survived by his children: Greg (Shelley) Romig, Janet (Jerry) Hale, Cathy Cooper, Jeff (Autumn) Romig, Brenda Romig-Fox, Karen Romig, Todd (Debbie) Gubry, Denise (Brian) Wetzil, Teresa (Paul) La Macchia, Michael (Lisa) Gubry, Melanie (Tim) Dornbos, Amie (Bing) Hake, Maria Anderson, and Jennifer Roy. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Virgil was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjorie; daughters Shelly Taylor and Pam Andrews; his parents Elmer and May Romig; and all of his brothers and sisters.
A man of quiet strength and enduring love for family and nature alike, Virgil Dean Romig leaves behind a legacy rooted in devotion and perseverance. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
