Zhenggang “Richard” Wang, 65, of Haslett passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from complications of cancer. In his five year cancer battle, he fought with optimism, good cheer, and without complaint despite many setbacks.
Zhenggang was born on February 15, 1957, in Beijing, China, to father, Lifu Wang, and mother, Lianying Zhu. He earned his bachelors of mechanical engineering from Northeastern Technical University (Dong Bei Gong Xue Yuan) in Shenyang, China, where he met his wife, Chunhong “Connie” Teng. They married on January 16, 1982. In 1985, he joined his wife at the University of Kansas, where he earned master’s degrees in mathematics and mechanical engineering.
Zhenggang was a lover of fishing and shooting. He collected and studied rocks, coins, and antiques. He enjoyed cooking, learning new techniques, and dissecting how a dish could be improved. His family will miss his red braised pork belly with vermicelli noodles.
Though he was a professional engineer, consultant, and businessman, he was first and foremost a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Justin, daughter Joy, son-in-law Zack, granddaughter Ava, brothers Zhengfang Wang and Zhengyu Wang, two nephews, and three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother-in-law Wenyi Yang, and sister Xiuwen Wang.
His family will remember his presence, wisdom, guidance, and his steadfastness in the face of adversity. They thank the Sparrow doctors, nurses, and medical staff for the care they provided Richard, as many of them knew him. It enabled the experiences and memories of the last five years. Even the ordinary – grocery shopping, quiet dinners, and birthday celebrations – were all extraordinary for the opportunity. May he rest in peace.
