He was born on June 15, 1949 in Highland, IL to Dale and Dona (Rose) Smith. He married Sharon Rea on October 20, 1968 in Edwardsville.
Mr. Smith was a 1967 graduate of Edwardsville High School and a graduate of SIUE with a degree in physical education. He also received his masters degree in education from Illinois State University and Northern Illinois University. He taught physical education in the Grand Ridge, IL School District for 34 years. Mr. Smith also served six years in the Army Reserves. After teaching, Mr. Smith retired to Indian Shores, FL with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon and son, Christopher, both of Indian Shores, FL; his mother, Dona Smith of Highland, IL; sister, Nancy (John) Genteman of Highland, IL; brother, Jeffrey (Sandy) Smith of Council Bluffs, IA and grandson, Jackson Smith of Ottawa, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father Dale Smith and brother, Michael Smith.
A memorial service will be held in Edwardsville and Ottawa at a later date.
