I can only say that we will never quit missing Don and only a parent can feel the loss of a child, no matter the age of their child.  My heart and prayers go out to any one this has happened to. The ache and loss, the empty part of your life

I think of you often and I know the grief is sometimes unbearable.  Just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know from what you've expressed about Don that he gave a lot to others.

I have placed a collection of the things Don used as a paramedic on our coffee table. The emblems he wore on his uniform, just a few of the different items he used to help patients.  Not a day goes by that we speak of Don and the joy he brought to our lives and others. The loss of him hurts more than anyone could believe, unless they too have a child die. Age of your child does not lessen the blackness of their death. Having worked in the medical field most of my professional life, I still did not comprehend the depths of a parent that had a child die.. You may think you know, but there is no way you can understand. There is a cold empty place in our hearts, not just for our loss, but the life he had taken away from him. We miss him so much,

Don loved to send us cards.Special holiday cards or cards to let us know he was thinking of us.It would be unusual for a week to pass without a card. He always wrote notes in the cards to make them more personal. I have saved every one of them. We miss him so very much. The tears still fall and our hearts never mended. love, Mom &Dad

I know this is a difficult time for you. I'm glad to hear you are putting up a tree and lights. I have been listening to Christmas music this year for the first time since we lost Tony.  There's still some music that I will never be able to listen to again. I believe we have to try to move ahead. I don't think our children would have us grieving so much if they had their way about it. I am thinking about you and will keep you in my thoughts.

This is the first year we have put up a tree and some lights.  I'm trying to come out of this horrible depression.  Don,Sr. hurts so much, but it shows, no matter how hard he attempts to hide it,  Don,Jr. loved Christmas. I think of others that have a child die. We make it a point to do something for others. While we receive a satisfaction, in doing this, it is one way to help someone else. We don't make any mention of doing things in Don,Jr.s name, this is the best way to honor his life. Don,Jr. was a loving person and would be happy to know that we are at least trying.  There is an empty hole that can never be filled. His laughter, his smile,  Gone, The world lost a great person and Don lost the years he should have had. I am thankful for having  him for the short time. He deserved better.

While I have written about our loss and pain. There is something even greater. The future of two hardworking young men. Life is strange to say the least. I see other parents and I hurt for them. When we stop and think what Don & Joseph lost,We realize they had such a future, realizing their hard work and dreams were real. Their love,their kindness,their hard work was taken away and as parents, we could not do anything to prevent the loss.  As always, as parents, we never lose the drive to protect them, no matter their age. I suppose this accounts for the sense of failure we feel. At least we know they are together again. This is what they would have wanted.We have memories, pictures,etc. Don was 6'3 and a retired para-medic. A drop dead smile and a wonderful love and care for us and others.  What more could a parent ask. Don and Joseph made the most of the time they had. How many of us can say that? Our boys will be with us until the day we die and then God willing we will be with them.

we miss Don @ Joseph so very much, there are no words to really describe the emptiness.  Every thanksgiving. they would bring something and we would cook something.  Then we would pray and be thankful we could be together.  There will be no more joy for any of the holidays for us. Instead, we donate what we would have spent to a charity.  Dear God, life is so empty without them. the laughter and smiles, all gone.

Yes my sweet friend, there is no pill or cure. Every area of our lives will forever be impacted by our loss. As I'm sure is the case for you, the first and last thing on my mind everyday is my son. There is no grief greater than the loss of a child.

Sorry I could not write for a short time.  The loss is as painful as ever.  The only thing harder than losing  your parents or spouse is funeral arrangements for your child.  Then the hurt and loss never goes away. We were so blessed with our son. His smile and laughter, the brave way he faced death, so much I could never imagine. I see something he would to know about and it hits me. Yes, we are blessed with the time we had with him, But this is one pain there is no pill or cure for. Love, Mom & Dad

I miss him so much. Don,SR, is also sad most of the time.  We are so lost without Don. It is something a parent  simply does not expect, even the further recesses of our minds. Joseph and Don were so close, it simply does not seem possible that both are gone. Yes, we are thankful for the time we had them;.But it will or does not seem to help.. How can we continue . They had such a bright future ahead. It makes me angry that they lost that. There are no words to express the pain.

The loss of Don & Joseph is beyond any thing We can express. The only balm to our hearts: They are together at last..

Loved so much, not a day goes by without  thinking of him.  We know that he is no longer in pain and he is in a better place.  However, that does not comfort us in the sense of not having him, hugging him, seeing his smile and hearing his laughter.  I suppose I should be thankful for the years we had him.  Don lost the time he would have had, the life he loved and the joy he gave to others. Life goes on without him, but it is an empty life and very painful. He is loved so much.  Dad & Mom

Barbara and Donnie, since learning of Don's death, I'm thinking of you all the time. I too have lost a son and can understand the devastation of such a loss. God bless you both.

It will soon be two years since our son died. Family, friends, and neighbors have been so supportive. Don's smile, his laughter and his love will always be with us. His courage, determined to win his fight against the cancer. All of the treatments, some of the side effects so horrible.  He did not complain, just continued to fight. His body failed him, his courage never wavered.  We are blessed to have had Don for awhile , just didn't have him long enough.

THE everyday issuses and problems of life are nothing to any one that have a child that died.  Yes, we go on,but the empty hole in our hearts will never die. We make donations to childrens agencys to try to help other children.  We pray for all the injured,sick or lost children. We also pray for the parents. Still the birthdays, holidays and the day they died can't be forgotton. Thank God for every day we had with these special young men.

There is no logic or even any reason for us to comprehend the death of both.We are stunned and at a complete loss of any words to comfort each other. We can only wait for our time to be together again. They were both loved more than words can express.

Don and Joseph are together now. The two of them enjoyed fishing, swimming, and keeping their home and lawn perfect. They had a full life with many friends and a loving family. We pray for help after the loss. The joy of our memories and so many pictures will help until we go to be with them.

Another Christmas without Don,Jr. We did not have the heart to string lights and put up a tree.  We read the pain that Joseph is living  with, no one can really feel the amount of sorrow he lives with each day. The loss is the same, but different.

To Don's family and Joseph - I am so sorry for your loss.  Don was a sweet and gentle soul.  Since learning of his passing two days ago, my heart has been full of sadness, but also many memories of good times together.  We lived down the hall from each other above the Chinese grocery store on Oak Street in Riverside.  I never eat crab legs without hearing Don's voice say "girl, don't fill up on potatoes when it's all you can eat crab legs." :-) I remember Don, Rod, Dale, and I going out to his sweet grandmother's house in Switzerland where she would have a BIG pot of crab legs waiting for us.  The thought of him being reunited with his grandmother brings a smile, but my heart aches for his family and Joseph who will miss him every day that he is absent from this earth. Rest well sweet friend. Until we meet again...

I met Don thru a mutual friend a few years before I moved to Jacksonville. Later, I began to work with his sister April at Betz PaperChem. (Small world)  He always had an amazing smile and was always fun to be around. He would lift your spirits.  I lost touch with Don over the years and often wondered where he was and how he was doing. I'm glad to hear he had someone special in his life.   To his parents, sister and partner, please accept my sincere condolences.  I just learned of his passing today.  He truly was a special person.

I am so sorry to read this about Don.  He was one of my best friends in Jacksonville, FL and I will always treasure the time and trips we took together.  Life was always an adventure with Don.  Rest in peace dear friend.

Don's love of nature began at a young boy. When he was six years old, we were camping, I went to check on him.He had not moved from a place on a bluff for some time.
