Fred was a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Army. He was a senior inspector with the NJ State Police Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, retiring after 27 years of service. Fred was involved with local politics, serving as both a councilmen and mayor in Garwood, before relocating to Indian Shores.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Minnie Strahlendorf (nee Landgraf), and both of his brothers Hans and Robert Strahlendorff and his brother-in-law Fred Berg.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Strahlendorf (nee Krahnert), his daughter Carol Vega and her husband Robert, and his son Jon and his wife Alicia, his sisters Christel Berg and Margaret Houghton and her husband Jack.
He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren Robert Vega and his wife Jessica, Michelle Ray and her husband Benjamin, Nicholas Vega and his wife Pamela, Mia Strahlendorf, Ian Strahlendorf, Evan Strahlendorf and Jake Strahlendorf. He also had five great-grandchildren James, Angela, Madison, Liam and Lucas.
