

George C. Rauscher, 86, of Clearwater, FL, passed away on March 17th 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 27, 1937. George was a devout Catholic and as a young man was a member of the Paulist Choristers. He moved to the Berkshires as a teenager and graduated from Williams High School in Stockbridge MA. After graduation George moved to Boston to attend Massachusetts College of Art and Design. While attending university, George joined the US Army Reserves and trained at Fort Dix. After this, George purchased and ran the Williams & Sons Country Store in Stockbridge, MA. He loved running the store and being part of the picturesque Norman Rockwell Main Street. He loved interacting with and making friends with members of the community. George was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Church in Stockbridge and was a member of the choir. After running the store for a number of years, George pulled up stakes and headed for the Sunshine State. But the Berkshires remained in his heart forever and held a very special place there. Once in Florida, George changed careers. He worked at Ivey’s Department Store, then at Maas Brothers and finally retiring from Macy’s. George loved listening to opera, traveling, food, old movies, Marlena Dietrich, Buddy Holly, Disney, but mostly loved spending time with family and friends . He was preceded in death by his brother Charlie Rauscher. He is survived by two nieces, Heidi Rauscher and Amy Scirocco, both from Chicopee, MA. He also leaves behind cousins, a grand niece and nephew and many friends. Funeral services were not wanted per George’s request.
