Janet was born in Bradford, PA then moved to Titusville, PA as a young child where she was raised with her sister Geraldine by their parents George and Grace. She was a graduate of Colestock High School in Titusville, the class of 1952 and had many good times there. She soon married and lived in New Jersey for a while, becoming the mother of Sally Ann and Ellen Jane, but times changed and she later married Bruce Dutton, also from Titusville.
They all moved to Florida and she became a mother for a third time with Stuart Edward. Jan and Bruce had a long, happy marriage and they shared a desire to travel, with two years living in American Samoa, as well as visiting multiple countries in Europe. Later in life, Janet and Bruce were avid fans of cruising and embarked on over twenty cruises on various cruise lines. She loved her family and friends and the house was full every Thanksgiving. Always curious, Janet explored several fascinating careers, from working in a flower shop, a Journalist for a local newspaper, photographing hundreds of kids as a School Photographer and even working as a Private Investigator. She had always been a voracious reader and became the owner the Small Adventures Bookshop in Gulfport, FL for many happy years. Her kindness and encouragement to readers are remembered there, as well as her joy in chatting up the tourists and locals that stopped in. Her beloved “Emily Dickenson Cat” could always be found roaming among the books.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, George and Grace Wallace; her sister Geraldine Howard; her loving husband of over 63 years, Bruce Dutton and by her daughter, Sally Rich.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Sadler; son, Stuart Dutton; grandchildren, Rachel Keen, Lauren Reed, Savannah Berardi, Harmony Gibbs, Caitlin Dutton-Reaver, Connor Dutton and five great grandchildren.
A Celebration Of Life will be held 1:00 pm January 25, 2024 at Serenity Funeral Home with interment at Serenity Gardens following. 13401 Indian Rocks Rd, Largo, FL 33774 / 727-562-2080
