Mimi, as she was known to everyone who knew her, was born in Huntington, IN on April 28, 1917 to Charles B. Bowers and Eva I. (Davis) Bowers. She was the fourth of four children, and the last to pass away. Her father passed away July 17, 1965 and her mother joined him in August 30, 1970.
She was married to Louis C. Williams in Fort Wayne, IN on September 1, 1939. Marriage was followed by her first trip East, with a never-to-be-forgotten visit to the New York World’s Fair. He died on February 8, 1970 in Pompano Beach, FL.
She will be remembered by her family as warm and loving. Her life was all about family, and she treasured family reunions. Growing up in Huntington as a member of the Bowers family meant attending reunions every year, a custom that she fostered even many decades later after she had left Huntington and was living in Florida. She was an expert seamstress who made clothing for every member of her family, and in later years turned to painting and quilt making. Her paintings tended toward her memories of growing up in Huntington, IN, with bucolic scenes that spoke of a quieter time. Her quilts always had bright colors, and were given to family members. Once asked why she didn’t sell some of her quilts she said, “But then, what would I give to my family?” What she gave was love—never ending, constant, vocal and absolute love. When she hugged someone, it was strong and long.
She leaves two children, Louis (Mary) C. Williams, Jr. of Sturgeon Bay, WI and Vikki Jo (Dennis) Hubbard of Saline, MI; five grandchildren, Terri DeShazer of Topeka, KS, Bradley (Barbara) Williams of Topeka, Ks, Lisa (Edward) McMahon of Chicago, IL, Steven Hubbard of Denver, CO and Deborah (Mark) Gallaher of Saline, MI; seven great-grandchildren, Tristen DeShazer, Liam Williams, Drew (Karen) Williams, Dillon Williams, Natasha Williams, Madelyn Gallaher and Katelyn Gallaher; and three nephews and one niece, Danny (Mary Louise) Hartwein of Ft. Pierce, FL, Robert (Charlotte) Hartwein, Brian Bowers of Huntington, IN and Roxanne Bowers of TX. One nephew, James Rosevear, died in 2012.
Her siblings who preceded her in death were Helen (Charles) Hartwein, Virginia (Glenwood) Rosevear, and Robert Bowers, Ft. Wayne, IN.
Mimi will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery North, 300 W. Coppans Rd., Pompano Beach, FL. The family is holding private services, and is preparing a website in her memory.
