Martie was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 31, 1924. Shortly thereafter the family (father George Burke Sr., mother Rachael Taylor Burke and brothers George, Charles and John, all deceased) journeyed down the Florida peninsula to settle in the lightly populated beach community of Treasure Island. Thus confirming a life long spiritual connection to the water, sand and sun.
Martie embodied an unflagging energy, affirmative outlook and vibrant sense of humor until the moment she left the planet on July 3, 2018. Qualities that brought to her years long friendships and inspired relationships. Outliving three husbands, F. Richard Redcay, Walter S. Pettebone and Dr. Edwin E. Hough, she felt blessed to have partners of such loving character and most importantly, companions that enjoyed sharing the humor in life’s moments and delighted in laughter.
Martie’s openness to all peoples of the world, a metaphysical interpretation of the cosmos and a heart-oriented approach to intelligence has informed the lifestyle and love enjoyed by sons Richard and Christopher Redcay along with her daughter-in-law Cynthia Redcay, step grandsons Chandler Thompson and Collin Thompson, granddaughters and husbands Brooke Redcay Via and Michael Via and Brittain Redcay Haney, Patrick Haney and great grandson Eamon Haney.
Martha Jean displayed a tenacious joy in living and an energy and love that imbued all those around her.
She was A Force.
