Max served his country in the US Army during World War 2 in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946, honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. Immediately upon his return from the war, Max married his high school sweetheart, Genevieve Vander Ploeg née Visscher on March 1, 1936. Max and Gen wen to have four kids, Cheryl, Thomas, James and Max. Following the sale of Max's chrome plating business in 1965, Max and family moved to Saint Petersburg, Florida where Max and Gen bought a small motel on 4th street South, which ran with the help of their family. Following the passing of Genevieve in 1998 Max married Nancy Vander Ploeg née Zimmerman in 2003. They met a Tyrone Square Mall because both walked the indoor mall for exercise and had a large group of friends who walked with them. They lived a quiet life in Seminole, Florida. Max was a long-time active member of Faith Covenant Church.
Max is survived by his wife Nancy, Daughter Cheryl (john), sons Thomas (Elizabeth) and Max (Pamela), stepdaughter Vanessa (James), and grandchildren William, Evan, Owen and Mila. The immediate family will be holding a private ceremony celebrating Max's life at a future date.
