Patricia May Duffy (née Lloyd), age 86, long-time resident of Pinellas County (Clearwater, Largo, and Belleair Bluffs), Florida, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, of natural causes. At the time of her passing, she was under hospice care in Longwood, Florida, being visited and comforted by family.
Patricia was born July 27, 1935, in Rochester, Minnesota - the youngest of the four daughters of William and Nora (Sieferman) Lloyd. “Pat” attended college at both the University of Minnesota and Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She met and married Ralph Phillips in Milwaukee in 1959, with whom she shared two children and years of love, parenting, creativity and success in business, and travel, before splitting in 1969. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Pat was also a businesswoman - working in retail sales, managing beauty salons, and ultimately becoming a very successful realtor. She joined a snow skiing and biking club where she made many good friends, in addition to the many enduring friendships that were born as a result of her real estate career. In 1985, Pat decided she wanted to live in a warmer climate, nearer to family, so she moved from Wisconsin to Clearwater, Florida. In 1987, she married Mark Duffy, with whom she shared years of happiness - living in both Kansas City, Missouri, and in Largo, Florida. Pat helped Mark to run his convention business, and also enjoyed traveling with him to the various cities in which the conventions were held, until Mark’s passing in 1994.
Pat’s mother and her three sisters, her brother-in-law, and other relatives lived near her in Florida - so she shared meals, shopped, went on boat rides, visited museums, attended concerts, etc., with those family members, as well as with others who visited her in Florida over the years.
Traveling was a particular passion of Pat’s. She relished going on trips with family and friends during which she collected T-shirts, Hard Rock Café pins, and other memorabilia. She could boast of having been to all seven continents. Pat was a fan of sports including football, baseball, basketball; and, most notably, tennis. She liked listening to music, playing the piano and guitar, and attending concerts. She also loved living near water, and watching sunsets, particularly those over the Gulf of Mexico, and would often remind people to “watch for the green flash”.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Mark Duffy; her father William H. Lloyd and her mother Nora C. (Sieferman) Lloyd; sisters Betty Wibben, Marjorie Aldeen, and Charlotte Norlander; brother-in-law Duane Aldeen; niece Patricia (Kasel) Bass, and nephew John Norlander.
She is survived by her daughter Diane Phillips, her son William (Traci) Phillips, and son-in-law Mark Frauendorfer; grandchildren Derek and Elyse Frauendorfer, and Lexi Phillips; nephews David (Carol) Aldeen, and Michael Kasel; nieces Nancy Waldhaus, Cheryl (Charlie) Favrot, Nancy (John) Higginbotham, Catherine Kasel, and Suzanne Kasel-Smith; and several grand nieces and nephews.
Pat was adventurous, intelligent, generous, and had a great sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, until we are all able to meet again. We trust, though, that those who passed before her are celebrating her arrival into Heaven with her!
An indoor funeral service for Patricia will be held Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 3:00 PM, at Serenity Gardens Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd, Largo, Florida 33774. An on-site Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow the service.
After the service, for those who wish to attend, a brief interment ceremony will be held in the Garden of Devotion area of the cemetery. The ashes of Patricia, her husband Mark Duffy, and sister Betty Wibben will be placed in a memorial bench in a spot that was chosen by Patricia - which faces the niches and plots of family members who passed before them. Afterward, the ceremony attendees will rejoin the reception in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mayo Clinic in her honor, as Patricia was born and raised in Rochester, MN, where the Mayo Clinic originated. She had great faith in, personally visited, and took others to the Mayo Clinic for care - so she would be pleased to know that her family and friends are helping the non-profit medical center that she so admired.
