Tanya grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she graduated from Eastern High School before earning her bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville. She built a successful career in project management, earning the nickname “Queen of the Monkeys” in the construction, sealcoat, and sign industries.
Beyond her professional life, Tanya was passionate about the outdoors and fiercely devoted to the people (and pets) she loved. Whether she was hiking a trail, camping, gardening, skiing, or simply wading in the surf at the beach, Tanya found joy in nature. Her home was certainly a testament to that, filled with hundreds of house plants, many housed in thrifted containers she creatively turned into plant pots.
She had a strong sense of service to others, including being a Girl Scout troop leader, cookie mom for her daughter's cheerleading team, and the first one to volunteer to chaperone field trips. Her warm heart extended to her family, friends, neighbors, and animals alike. She was especially proud of her role as a mother to her daughter, Jasmine Scott, who was the light of her life and her greatest joy.
Often, the highlights of Tanya’s week were the weekly traditions she shared with Jasmine, her mother Joy, and stepfather Tommy “Pappy” Meyer. Family dinners were held every Sunday, with good conversation over Pappy’s favorite foods. Routine happy hours were named “Pappy Hour” because of the joy her cherished Pappy brought to the occasion. Tanya and Pappy formed a close bond, and he affectionately called her “B,” as in “Plan-B”. She also loved her neighborhood traditions, especially “Yappy Hour” with Marcia, Pete, Laura, and Cory – a happy hour with dogs in tow.
Tanya is survived by her daughter Jasmine Scott; her mother, Joy Meyer, and stepfather Thomas Meyer; her brother, Scott Heartquist, his wife Christie, and their daughters Rayna, Amara, and Lyla; and her beloved pets, Luna, who she rescued as a puppy; Hunter, a Jack Russell Terrier; and Milo, a rescued Bengal cat. She leaves behind countless plants, many friends, and neighbors who will remember her love for life.
A celebration of Tanya’s life will be held as an open house on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 2–4 PM at the Clearwater Yacht Club, 830 Bayway Blvd, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767. In honor of her memory, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Suncoast Animal League.
