Andrew was born on September 20, 1949, to Albert and Marjory-Jean Holland in Norwalk, Connecticut. The youngest of 5 children, Andy graduated high school in New Jersey and went on to enlist with the United States Air Force. He was placed in the Computer Science division and served as a computer systems programmer. After four years of service, he continued a career in computer programming and systems analysis.
Andy met Barbara Kamanitz in 1967 in Massachusetts, whom he courted throughout his time in the service. They married in Connecticut in 1976 surrounded by family and friends and shortly thereafter moved to Las Vegas, NV. Andy had lived in Las Vegas for most of his enlistment and had fallen in love with the desert landscapes. He even volunteered with a rescue group that searched for lost tourists in the desert. As Andy and Barbara were avid hikers and nature photographers, the move was an easy yes, and they spent their weekends traveling across the region hiking and taking photographs. Andy and Barbara had two children, Michelle Holland in 1978, and Danielle Holland in 1981.
Andy found his eventual work home with the Southwest Gas Company, where he happily remained as the “go-to” systems guy until retirement 30 years later. He spent much of his later life devoted to the care and upbringing of his granddaughter Samantha Holland. Andy could be seen on any given day, encouraging Samantha from the front seat bench at her swim practices, applauding her as she performed in dance recitals and driving her from karate to home and back again.
Andy is remembered as a good man, intelligent and kind. A soft-spoken man, he could bring himself and others to tears of laughter with silly animated long-form joke-telling. He was an avid reader, a history buff and the giver of the best bear hugs. Andy is survived by, remembered by and forever loved by his wife, Barbara Holland, his children Michelle and Danielle Holland, his grandchildren, Samantha Holland and Nathan D’Amico, Bryan Osborne-Hanke, and his siblings Jeanie Holland, Grant Holland, Margo Holland, and Bettie-Ann Peterson.
There will be a funeral service held at King David Memorial Chapel, on October 26 at noon. Shiva will be held on the evenings of October 26, 27, and 30 at the home of Barbara Holland. May his memory forever be a blessing.
