A Service of Resurrection and Remembrance for Arthur E. Nelson January 22, 1931 - August 19, 2017 September 9, 2017, 10:00 A.M. Christ Church Episcopal 2000 S. Maryland Pkwy; Las Vegas, Nevada 89104; 702-735-7655 Arthur E. Nelson, age 86, passed to his eternal reward on August 19, 2017. He was born on January 22, 1931. Anyone who knew Art, knew he loved to tell jokes, he loved to travel, he loved good music, amazing churches and of course, he loved his family and friends. Arthur moved from Iowa to Las Vegas in 1959 to work for the Review-Journal. He especially enjoyed running the linotype machine…what he described as "a dream job!" In the 1960s, he was hired as the organist for the Guardian Angel Cathedral on the Las Vegas Strip. Art had a talent for for bringing out the best in his singers. With unparalleled generosity and humility, he would "hunt up" the most suitable solos, rehearse and refine his singers and help them shine with God's glory. As Art neared the end of his life, he continued to be an inspiration and example of love, forgiveness and faith in God. He was a master at adjusting to his circumstances, at finding the best in each situation, at praising his caretakers, and at making every situation a little better! Dear Art! You will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered…until we meet again! A special phrase of Art's was, "Auf Wiedersehen! I love you!" Today, Art, we are saying it right back to you! Thank you for sharing your life, love, music and jokes with us! Auf Wiedersehen! We love you! REMEMBERING ARTHUR E. NELSON Arthur requested that the song A Perfect Day be sung at his Memorial Service, but he wanted a different melody, ...a melody composed by his former Guardian Angel Cathedral Cantor (Betsy Ann Fiore). He asked her to come up with something which would go with the lyrics he so dearly loved. The words of the song describe the heart and joyful soul of our beloved Art, who lived to bring happiness to those around him. For Art, any day with friends and loved ones, was A Perfect Day! Words by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Melody by Betsy Ann Fiore When you come to the end of a perfect day, And sit alone with your thought, While the chimes ring out with a carol gay, For the joy the day has brought. Do you think what the end of a perfect day, Can mean to a tired heart? When the sun goes down with a flaming ray, And the dear hearts have to part? Well, this is the end of a perfect day, Near the end of a journey too, But it leaves a thought that is big and strong, With a wish that is kind and true, For memory has painted this perfect day, With colors that will never fade, And we find at the end of a perfect day, The soul of a friend we've made.
