He was born on June 23, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and lived in Las Vegas and Incline Village, Nevada; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Depoe Bay and Portland, Oregon.
Mr. Finseth started out his employment as a brakeman for Union Pacific Railroad while attending the University of Oregon, earning his Bachelor's and Doctor of Juris Prudence degrees. After graduation, he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where he worked as a law clerk and then as a trust officer for Cooke Trust, now First Hawaiian. He then began his specialty in real estate law and launched a remarkable career as a real estate developer. Some of his greatest developments included Royal Kahana, Channel House, and Kahana Villa on Maui; Fairway Villa and Ward Lanai on Oahu; and Channel House and Whale Cove Inn in Oregon. He was also fond of his time as a restaurateur, owning The Wharf Restaurant in Hawaii Kai during the 1980s. He took pride in being able to share his entrepreneurial spirit with his sons and grandson.
A monolith in size and spirit, Carl was the pillar to his family. Vigor and vitality led him to love playing tennis, golfing, and riding his bike to work as well as being a part of The Outrigger Canoe Club. Carl was an avid traveler whose wanderlust led him on an adventurous journey to visit all seven continents. Some of his happiest times included traveling with his wife and other family and friends getting to experience many different cultures around the world. He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandson playing cribbage, discussing education, and keeping up on world events. With wit, humor, wisdom, vision, and support, he fostered deep connections and protective love with his family and closest friends.
