Darrell Thornton, a highly respected local businessman, loving father, and devoted member of
the LDS Church, passed away of natural causes on January 12, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at
the age of 84. Darrell was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to Alpine Eugene Thornton and
Marguerite McBride Thornton. He was raised in Las Vegas. Following High School Darrell
Attended BYU in Provo, Utah majoring in Golf and then attended UNLV for a short time. Darrell
married Diane Christensen Thornton on July 15, 1961. His wife and the absolute love of his life,
sadly passed away just 2 weeks prior to him on December 29 th , 2024
Darrell made a lasting impact on the city he called home through his leadership in the local
community and his work with Nevada Ready Mix Corp, where he served as President for many
years. His career with Nevada Ready Mix started at the young age of 22 years old when he took
a position as a ready-mix truck driver, and he steadily worked hard and found his way up
through the business he loved to eventually become its President in 1987. Under his guidance,
Nevada Ready Mix became a key supplier for local homebuilders, commercial developments,
major hotels and renowned landmark projects throughout the Las Vegas area, contributing to
the city’s growth and development. He would retire from NRM on March 30 th , of 2022.
A man of integrity and hard work, Darrell was not only known for his business acumen but also
for his warmth and generosity. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, easily
making lifelong friendships and valuable connections wherever he went. Whether in business or
his personal life, Darrell’s genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in his
community.
Darrell was a proud father to five children: two sons and three daughters, whom he adored and
supported with his unwavering love. His wife and his family were his greatest joy, and he was
always there to offer guidance, laughter, and encouragement. He also had a deep love for golf,
enjoying the sport as both a hobby and a way to spend time with family and friends. He loved to
work-out and stay healthy which you could find him doing even when he traveled.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Darrell’s faith played an
integral role in his life. He found strength and purpose in his spiritual commitments and was
dedicated to serving others through his beliefs.
Darrell’s legacy lives on through his family, his business achievements, and the countless
friendships he cultivated throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, his work
ethic, and the many lives he touched. He was one of the last titans of his community.
Darrell is preceded in death by: Alpine Eugene Thornton, Marguerite McBride Thornton, Darren
Eugune Thornton (son), Darek James Thornton (son), Kenzie Crampton, Darren Trent DeHart
and Diane Christensen Thornton (Wife)
Darrell is survived by: Dana Crampton, John Crampton, DeriAnn Thornton Mannion, Deena K
Thornton, Kristi Martinez, Dillon Thornton, Kylie Geiger, Danni DeHart, Drew DeHart, Kolby
White, Brittlyn Woods, Austen Mannion, Bentley Burr, Charley Burr and Rosie White.
