Dionisio Santos Consengco Jr, of Las Vegas, Nevada, peacefully passed away March 10, 2023, at home comforted and surrounded by his family. He was born in Orion Bataan, to Dionisio and Marcosa Consengco on December 31, 1940. He grew up in Orion Bataan with his 4 brothers and 2 sisters as the youngest child of the family. His dream as a child since the age of 12 was to become a Doctor and live in America. He attended University of Santo Thomas (class of 1964), where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life, which he recalled fondly his childhood adventures with his best friend and cousin Ping.
Upon graduating from UST in 1964 with a degree in Medicine he then applied for residency in Internal Medicine to Providence Hospital in Southfield Michigan where he met other life-long friends including Elizabeth Gatus his wife for 58 years.
Elizabeth Gatus Consengco of Las Vegas, Nevada died unexpectedly April 1,2023 due to complications during surgery. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden death. Elizabeth was born in Makato Aklan, Philippines to Fernando C. Gatus and Paz Legaspi on January 1,1941. She grew up with 2 brothers and 1 sister as the 2nd oldest of the family. Her dream to become a doctor was inspired by the fact that in order to see a Doctor in their province people had to travel many miles to the city to visit a doctor. She felt that if she became a doctor she could better serve her province so people would not have to travel so far for medical care. She attended University of Santo Thomas (class of 1963) with a degree in Medicine. She applied for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology to Providence Hospital in Southfield Michigan where she met her best friends Helen Bautista, Alicia Sandoval and other life-long friends including Dionisio S. Consengco, Jr her husband for 58 years.
They were married in Michigan on October 29, 1965. They moved back to the Philippines for a few years to practice medicine. They returned back to Michigan to begin practicing medicine. They moved to Jackson Michigan where they would spend the next 30 years building a successful medical practice together.
Dion retired in 1998 at the age of 58 and Elizabeth retired in 2000 at the age of 59 and moved to Las Vegas. During their retirement years they enjoyed ballroom dancing, reuniting with old friends at UST class reunions and having an active lifestyle in Las Vegas. They valued family dinners with their children and grandchildren where they taught the importance of family values and responsible financial practices. Dion especially enjoyed discussing historical trivia and current events with his family. Elizabeth simply, enjoyed, talking, laughing and spending time with her kids and grandkids . Elizabeth was a devoted wife and in Dion’s last few weeks Elizabeth continued to care for him the best she could til the end. Elizabeth’s unexpected sudden death was shocking to all of us especially her family but today we know that she dances with angels alongside her beloved husband Dionisio and daughter Josephine.
Dion and Elizabeth are predeceased by their daughter Josephine Ann Consengco “Joanne” and are survived by Vincent and Denise of Las Vegas, and Arnold of Japan; grandchildren: Miles and Angelica of Las Vegas, Anthony, Monica and Keito of Japan and Gabriel of France as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
