Encarnacion Mentoya Yabut (Inang or Mother), 97, passed away peacefully at 8:30 PM, October 3rd, 2020, in her home surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with congestive heart failure. For many years, she bravely endured all the pain and suffering of dealing with her weak heart. Despite her condition, she continued to remain in good spirit and faith, having the assurance that the Lord will, someday, give her a new body.
Mother was born on March 17th, 1923, in Manaoag Pangasinan, in the Philippines, to Jeremias and Esperanza Mentoya. She married her childhood sweetheart, Rafael Rosalin Yabut (who is now deceased), on January 16th, 1944. They were each other’s first and last love and were married for a remarkable 73 years. Inang became the very proud mother of nine children: Ernesto (deceased), Tita (deceased), Loly, Vilma (deceased), Marieta (deceased), Conrad, Tommy, Ronnie, and Edelyn. She lived to have 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She had five sisters and three brothers.
Inang was a very loving and supportive wife to her husband. She loved cooking authentic Filipino dishes such as Pinakbet, Pinapaitan, Dinuguan, and many others. Aside from being busy with household chores, she managed to take care of some of her grandchildren at the same time. Most importantly, she was a Christian, and she loved God. She was like the epitome of a woman described in Proverbs 31:10-30: a woman who fears the Lord, works hard and provides for her family. Her husband and children call her blessed, and they praised her.
Even at an old age, Inang’s mind remained sharp throughout the years. She took good care of herself; she administered her own medicine and checked her blood sugar every day. She was mindful of her children, grandchildren, and relatives; she remembered everyone’s names and always had concern for each one. She also loved communicating with her relatives in the Philippines. She loved to dress and wear jewelry. She loved listening to folk music and watching Tagalog dramas. She even learned how to use Facebook, YouTube and texting through Messenger.
There are a lot of beautiful words to describe Mother. She was born with greatness, goodness and trust. She lived a long, wonderful life, taught us everything, and did not let us feel that we needed to say a word but her heart speaks with so much love and understanding. A feeling of a small child always being protected loved and covered by a loving mom “Inang” who always light up our lives.
Her memory will live in the hearts of her children and children-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several relatives, friends, church family from Las Vegas, Guam, Philippines, Canada, California, Texas and around the globe. She is loved by many and will be missed dearly. The memories we had with her will forever be treasured.
This separation is only temporary because someday, we will have a great reunion in heaven. I Thessalonians 4:13-17 (NIV): “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever."
Viewing and Funeral Service will be held on October 17, 2020, Saturday. Viewing will be from 12:30pm-1:45pm, Service at 1:45pm-3:00pm, and burial will follow at 3:00pm at Palm Eastern Mortuary.
