Her parents, Hilda and Walter A. Stewart, Jr. of Shreveport, Louisiana, were blessed with the arrival of their only child, Jacqueline Alice, on February 8, 1929. While growing up in Shreveport, Jackie attended A.C. Steere Elementary School and graduated from Byrd High School in 1946. She attended Centenary College and, while working towards a home economics degree, Jackie met and married Fred Russ, Jr. She and Fred left Shreveport and followed the family business (Kidd Russ Luggage) to Baton Rouge. There they had 2 daughters, Debra Lynn (1951) and Dana Stewart (1954). Divorcing in 1958, Jackie and the girls moved back to Shreveport.
In 1965 she met USAF Major James (Jim) D. Jordan on a blind date. They married in 1966 and she became the step-mother to Jim’s 4 children: Bruce, Craig, Doug and Jamelyn. After many Air Force moves, including 2 years in India, Jackie and Jim settled in Las Vegas in 1978. Jackie has been here ever since.
Being a longtime member of Christ Church Episcopal, Jackie’s earthly support and strength came from her 40 year relationship with her loving prayer group “family.” She was an active member of PEO and enjoyed the many friendships she made through that organization. Jackie spent the majority of her latter adult life as a caretaker for family members who became unable to take care of themselves. She gave of herself tirelessly and was well-loved and respected by her friends, family and community. She brightened up every room with her smile and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jackie is survived by her 2 daughters, Debra Gustavson and Dana (Michael) Brake, both of Henderson, NV; her stepsons Bruce Jordan of Arlington, TX, Craig (Karen) Jordan of South Whitley, IN, Douglas (Janice) Jordan of Cleburne, TX; and her stepdaughter Jamelyn Williams of Corpus Christi, TX. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Major Michael (Meaghan) Gosma of Panama City, FL, Karen (Chris) Joyal of Tampa, FL, Brian (Amy) Brake of Atlanta, GA, Christopher Jordan of South Whitley, IN, and Renee Bowman of Lebanon, IN; her 11 great-grandchildren who reside with their parents; her sister-in-law Nancy (Lou) Mesavage of Medina, OH; and her brother-in-law Robert (Dee) Jordan of Highlands Ranch, CO.
