

Jean Claire Reed, 89, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at Pacifica assisted living in Las Vegas Nevada.
Jean was born in Northumberland New Hampshire on Dec. 2,1934 to Nellie and Arthur Patton. Jeans family moved to Gouverneur New York when she was 8 years old. Jean graduated from Watertown School of Commerce. She played the saxophone, piano and organ for Sunday church services. Jean moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband George Cool and young son Mark in 1959. She joined both of her brothers Albert (Bud) and Arthur (Art) Patton and their families in Las Vegas, with her mother joining them later. Jean raised three sons in Las Vegas, Mark, Raymond and Gerald Cool.
Jean began a new chapter of her life with Walter Reed, when they married in 1977. Jean worked as a cafeteria manager at Cashman Jr. High. She retired from the Clark County school district in 1995 after 25 years of service. At that time Jean and Walt traveled the country extensively in their motorhomes. Jean and Walt moved to Hurricane, Utah where after her retirement they enjoyed the panoramic Utah scenery from their home. Jean and Walt both served as officers with the Good Sam RV Club, making many lasting friendships along the way. Jean also served on every board position of her Homeowners Association and community. Jean was greatly missed by her community when she left Hurricane and returned to Las Vegas in 2022.
Jean enjoyed collecting and making dolls with her mother. They once took second place in a doll contest. She also collected teacups and Kachina Dolls from their travels. She was an avid reader, with mysteries being her favorite. Jean enjoyed Skype with her brother as well as e-mail, text, Facebook, solitaire and other computer games. Jean’s greatest joy was family get togethers during the holidays. She hosted many a Christmas party for the entire family. She will always be present in our hearts and in spirit on the Holiday that she so loved. Our shining star, forever missed.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Walter Reed (2015), her two brothers, a nephew and her parents. Survivors are her three sons, Mark Cool, Raymond (Wendy) Cool, Gerald (Heidi) Cool, Three grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.
Jean’s remains will be interred at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City, Nevada, alongside her husband Walter Reed. A Celebration of Life is being planned with Palm Southwest Mortuary in Las Vegas.
