Joan M. Assalone, 81, entered into Eternal Life Dec. 8, 2013, after a battle with long-term illness. She was born in Queens, N.Y., and moved to Las Vegas in 1979. Joan, also known as "Spanky," loved bingo and watching sporting events, especially her undivided love for the New York Jets and Mets. She loved God's creations, especially St. Bernards, Golden Retrievers (Bailee), her house-birds and cats. She is survived by her husband, of 61 years, Joseph; sons, Larry, Kenny and Father John; daughters-in-law, Susan and Donna; grandchildren, Jason, Samantha, Athena and Vienna, who were by her side throughout; and many close family friends. She will be greatly missed. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2300 Sunridge Heights Parkway, Henderson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Capital Campaign or Nathan Adelson Hospice.
