

Joseph Walter Meagher was born on December 16, 1948, in San Jose, California. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte (Harriger) of 41 years, who passed away in 2019, and by his parents, Robert and Marjorie (Huff) Meagher, who passed in 2001 and 2010, respectively. Survived by his first wife, Patricia (Peterson) Meagher.
Joseph graduated from Blackford High School in San Jose in 1967. His first job was at Jack in the Box, before he began working for the United States Postal Service. While employed by the USPS, he was drafted into the United States Army and served overseas during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to civilian life, he resumed his career with the Postal Service, where he worked for a total of 41 years, ultimately retiring on June 1, 2011.
In the early part of his life, Joseph was a son, a brother, a husband, a friend, and a soldier. Over the years, he grew into many roles - becoming a loving father, a respected leader and mentor, and a dedicated soccer and baseball coach. Of all the roles he cherished, being a grandfather and great-grandfather was among his greatest joys. Joseph also had a passion for working with leather, baking, and building LEGO sets.
Joseph is survived by his sisters Anne (Ed - deceased) Dwyer and Louise (Harry) Robinson; his daughters, Heidi (Scott) Francabandera and Sandra (Jesse) Hiestand; his sons, Michael Meagher, Robert (Aria) Meagher, and Tim (Angelina) Meagher; nine grandchildren: Russell and Cassandra Cheek, Luke and Katherine Hiestand, Aspen and Gabrielle Meagher, and Alyssa, James and Charlotte Meagher; four great grandchildren: Carter and Jasper Cheek, Kaylee and Elias Henner; and his grand-dog Daisy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Joseph’s memory to one of the following organizations: TAPPS Nevada, Sacramento SPCA, Best Friends Animal Society or your own personal favorite charity.
