Julene Armeda Lampinen (nee Kangas), 88, (Henderson, NV), a proud granddaughter of Finnish immigrants and a resident of Southern Nevada since 1978, entered eternal life on Friday, January 14, 2022. She was the second of four children born to Eino and Helia (Mattson) Kangas at the family farm near Lake Superior in Calumet, Michigan on March 30, 1933.
Julene lived in the metro Detroit area, as a wife and mother of three children. Having an entrepreneurial spirit, she began Aries Publishing, a local news publication in Las Vegas, Nevada, and worked there until she retired. She was an excellent cook, and well-known for her Finnish meat pies (pasties); and had many large holiday dinners, making sure to include those without family or friends. Julene was sociable, generous, and kind. She loved God, her family, and enjoyed life.
Julene is survived by her 36-year companion, Thomas Hinners; her children, Lois Lampinen (Henderson, NV), Debra (Gary) Wurmlinger (Hudson, FL), Steven Lampinen, M.D. (Las Vegas, NV); grandchildren, Audra (Darron) Franta, Ryan Wurmlinger, Brandon Herbert; and great-grandson, Ethan Herbert; a sister, Alice Toss (Rochester Hills, MI); and several nieces and nephews. Julene was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Junttila, on December, 3, 2000, and brother, David Kangas, on April 2, 2021.
The family of Julene thanks the staff of Henderson Hospital and Henderson EMS for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family is sure that Julene would appreciate any donation for the care of animals at the Nevada ASPCA.
