Karen was always looking for new adventures, so she worked in many different occupations during her lifetime. She graduated from cosmetology school in the early 1960’s, and immediately began working out of her home as a cosmetologist, so she could be near her children while they were young. Karen and her family moved from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas in 1969. She worked in the casino cage at various hotels shortly after moving to Las Vegas. It was while she was working at the Castaways Hotel in 1974 that she met her future husband, Michael Sullivan, and they were married a year later. In the late 1970’s, she became a successful real estate agent, mostly dealing in new home sales, and investing in some rental properties of her own. In 1980, she decided to follow in her parents footsteps and opened A Rainbow of Flowers Flower Shop which she owned and operated for many years. This was perhaps her favorite endeavor.
Karen loved to spend time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved visiting places where she could enjoy stunning views and plenty of nature. She enjoyed decorating her home, and made it truly welcoming. Karen’s greatest talent, however, was creating beautiful crocheted afghans that will be cherished by her loved ones for many years.
Karen will be deeply missed by her family, including her children Tracey O'Very, Jon O' Very, Mindy Sims, and their spouses Theresa O’Very and Scott Sims. She was a loving grandmother to Alyssa, Karissa, Ashley, Jonathan, and Taylor; and her nine great grandchildren. Karen was a source of support and joy for her family, always celebrating their accomplishments and providing comfort in times of need. She cherished every moment spent with them.
Karen's caring and generous nature touched the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
