First let me say how sorry I am for your loss. 

I am thinking of you all this evening in England, an hour away from the memorial service for your dad. I am with you in spirit as I remember when I first met you and Lindsay on our visit to Las Vegas in 2014. He was an instant hit with Richard, me and my friend Alison, He was so relaxed and friendly, made us welcome and invited us to meet with you for lunch. We felt so at home with you both- I never imagined I would ever say I felt at home in Vegas!

We were delighted when he made a trip to Bath here in England and we able to meet up again for a good old Enlish pub lunch. He seemed equally at home here too. I have veiwed the lovely photos of Linsay with his family and I can see how happy that made him.

We spent many an early morning flying from LA to San Francisco, or Portland, or Vancouver on to Anchorage! You always had a pleasant demeanour and you were the consummate professional even at 04:00! We both enjoyed flying the beautiful Boeing 747 you made every trip a pleasure! RIP Captain!

afternoon . He was such a good guy and our favorite Captain. I knew Lindsay since I first joined Cathay Pacific Cargo in 2001.  After he retired , we still keep in touch.  

I will miss my friend.

He will always remain in my memories for his friendship, wit, knowledge of manuals etc. He gave fellow pilots the irrits by being able to quote page numbers of manuals - where maybe he didn’t know the answer but knew where it was in the manual “on page number about halfway down under the diagram”. I got lost on his various quotes from for example Rudyard Kipling and never knew what the cube root of 343 or whatever was (despite my accounting background) until a second son Nathan googled it - as you do (answer 7). We had discussed our early Pilbara years and I was impressed that he produced a 1978 Group Certificate (Tax) from Wittenoom Nominees. He also achieved the nick name of “RIP van Dawe” for his ability to sleep anywhere accompanied by raucous snoring – which he acknowledged back in March.

It was fantastic to be able to spend some time with him and the family again back in March 2024 and I will always appreciate the effort he obviously made to achieve that including showing myself and my son Grant around  - Grant was very impressed with the Hoover Dam and the Strip and the families hospitality!. The aviation friends and families in Perth Western Australia send their thoughts and best wishes also for the family.

Perhaps I should say that together Lindsay and I met Ann in October 1979 during a simulator course in Witchita – I had to return to Australia, Lindsay stayed for another two weeks in Witchita and the then ferried a Citation jet back to Perth and as far as Ann and Lindsay went as they say “the rest is history”. Sadly, Ann passed away some years back but I saw her and Lindsay in Perth during his visits.
I recall in 1990 Lindsay being miffed that I was still on the F28 in the airline system overseas despite being much older but history showed that he passed me on aircraft types notably DC10 and finally 747 with Cathay’s freighter setup the latter for about 20 years. I remained on medium jets until retirement but Lindsay didn’t rub it in too much.
We kept in contact with at least annual Christmas catchup emails and recently photos from Tiffany and family but I had noted that he had not been back to Perth for a while, and queried if I needed to know anything at which point he “fessed up” that all was not well. I queried if he was up to a visit and was privileged to achieve that with him and the family back on March 2 and 3 where he showed myself (and my son Grant) the sights of Vegas. I was stunned to hear the news from Tiffany of his passing on 25 March 2024 – three weeks later. As requested I passed on his “Gooday” in Perth to those he specifically requested but sadly had to include the news that he had passed away in what was seemed to be only a few days since we caught up.

My name is Bob Fenn and I’ve been in Perth Western Australia since 1977 having come from Adelaide (1300 miles away). I and the Perth based Pilots from yester year noted that Lindsay retained his Australian accent with some exceptions such as Cell Phone instead of Mobile etc. despite having been in USA since 1990.
I first met Lindsay circa 1973 unbelievably on reflection 50 + years ago when were both scratching for hours and studying the airline subjects, in Adelaide South Australia. I worked for Rossair a General Aviation company with a lot of bush flying, and Lindsay ended up in the bush at Wilpena Pound scenic flying and behind the bar in the tourist resort.
It’s not hard to work out where his grandchild’s name of Adelaide came from – good choice Tiffany and Dave! Lovely name for a treasured granddaughter.
We re-met in Wittenoom WA 1977 – the Pilbara mining area which is now massive for Australia – again scratching to get hours up now in twins. The company we worked for was Pilbara Air Services or Wittenoom Air Charter and became SkyWest Airlines, merging with Trans West Airlines, buying East West Airlines who operated F28’s (a medium jet about 100 seats), and in turn being bought by Ansett Airlines. This gave us a back door entry to Airlines. We did our F28 theory and simulator courses in Amsterdam and most training in Sydney. An airline dispute in 1989 saw most pilots heading overseas – myself to France (later Indonesia) and back to Australia, and Lindsay returning to USA with Ann, Whitney, and Tiffany about 1990.

I met Lindsay in 1996 when we both started at Cathay Pacific and we immediately became good friends. We flew together for 20 years and had many laughs and good times together. He was a great pilot, a true professional and gentleman. I was never fortunate enough to meet his family due to the fact we lived thousands of miles apart. However, I felt like I knew them all as he often told me stories about them. He will be missed!      Don Jackson

He had an investigative nature about the world and the universe.
I will miss how Lindsay always looked to leave you with a puzzle such as “which is colder minus 40degrees Celsius or minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit?” I like to think he is looking down on us with an amused smile as we work out the answer!

 I will miss his accounts of driving across the state border to buy a national lottery ticket and what he would do with $2 billion. He would cheekily complain of first having to pay federal taxes of 24 % …..something unheard of in Australia! This would bring forth the favourite response from his sister “ I keep telling you to come home!”

I like to believe Lindsay is safely home and now remains in our hearts and minds.

Thanks for the fond memories you have given us.

Early in his flying career he delivered cash wage pay packets to outback South Australian townships. The paymaster would wait on the strip for Lindsay to drop a securely tied bundle of wage packets from his plane without landing
On one occasion the wage packets had not been securely tied and Lindsay was left holding the string as the wage packets fluttered to the tarmac!
On another occasion in the 1970s Lindsay was commissioned to fly a new Cessna Citation jet from New York to Australia. The fuel capacity of the Citation was marginal to get to London where it was scheduled to refill so Lindsay changed his flight plan to Shannon airport. He asked “how many times has this aircraft had made this journey?” and was told “let’s put it this way. When you arrive you’ll be the first”!

He continued his flight through Europe and over the Far East where air traffic control was solely in Arabic. Since traffic control didn’t speak English and his knowledge of Arabic was nonexistent he turned his radio off! He was very relieved to hear Pommie accents from Hong Kong air traffic control!

When I’m asked what will I miss most about Lindsay I’ll say I miss a wonderful loyal friend who always captured my imagination and was always fun to be with.

I will miss his relaxed nature gained from an early age. Despite falling out of bed during an earthquake in Adelaide when he was 3 years old he continued sleeping! In fact he could sleep anywhere anytime and almost missed our wedding having overslept in Hong Kong airport. Fortunately he pulled rank and took the jump seat on the next flight.
I will miss his newsy calls every Monday to talk with his younger sister.

 I will miss his incredible memory and detailed knowledge of UK history. His specialty was kings and queens of England from 1066 and his knowledge was extensive about their reigns.

My name is Lance Horner, brother in law to Lindsay. I am married to Christine Dawe, the younger sister of Lindsay.

We are all the richer for having Lindsay touch our lives. We all have our own special memories of Lindsay.

I can think of no other fitting way to pay tribute to Lindsay’s life than to share a few cherished memories of him.

How do you sum up Lindsay’s life.? ….a life so well lived.

His interests were varied ….perhaps too many to record. Most of the congregation will know of his professional life in his Aviation career. 

I remember him first and foremost as a true blue Aussie young man with an endearing personality -quick witted and confident yet with a calm personality ideally suited to his profession as a Captain pilot.

That young man later became a husband and father adding the important ingredient of deep family love to his personality.

In retirement Lindsay’s focus was firmly on family life, a dedicated father to Tiffany, Dave Whitney and most recently the wonderful gift of Adelaide, his granddaughter.
Lindsay loved life and he loved his family. 

It is the essence of Lindsay as a person and his qualities that are so impressive and I hope these are demonstrated in the thoughts I have chosen from so many that live with me and I now share with you.

He inspired confidence and assurance in others.

Whilst flying a business group within the Western Australian outback one of his two engines cut out due to overheating. He calmly told the passengers “I have a slight problem”  then  “Heck, let’s face it I have a big problem and I’m looking for a place to land”. He landed safely to the applause of grateful passengers and took off sometime later when the engine had cooled. Upon returning to base he was told that a full scale search for his missing plane was now being called off.

A true gentleman and a fine aviator. Rest in Peace, Lindsay.  Sincere condolences to your loved ones.

The late Maurice Dawe & Lindsay Dawe cousins who are now both resting in peace eternally

I remember in high school, your dad would help you with your math homework and I just thought how awesome that was. 
How he helped you with your first car, life, marriage, child care and what a wonderful and welcoming father and person he was. 
I’m so sad that he is no longer with us but knowing he is with others that love him and that you are as well.
