

Lou was born on March 28, 1942, the second son of Pauline and Jacob Fink. He and his older brother Frank were raised in Brooklyn, New York. They all preceded him in death. Lou was a brilliant scholar and graduated from Boston University at age 19. He graduated from Albany Medical College in 1965 at the age of 23. He served in as a Major in the United States Air Force from 1970 - 1972, at Mather Air Force Base in California.
Lou’s civilian medical career began in Colorado, and from there to Columbia University and then to Vanderbilt University. From there he went to Little Rock, AR to continue his teaching and research responsibilities. Lou’s specialty was anatomical and clinical pathology. In addition to this work, he was the Director of research for all the VA hospitals in the Southern tier of the United States. It was while he was in Little Rock that he met Pat, the love of his life. They married in 1996. In 2005, Lou and Pat relocated to Las Vegas, where Lou became one of the founding doctors of the Nevada Cancer Institute. Lou was the Director of Core Laboratory Services. He worked at Desert Research prior to his retirement in 2018.
Lou was a prolific writer. He published literally hundreds of scientific papers. His literary skills extended beyond the scientific, Lou was an accomplished and published author of fiction and poetry. He was also a talented sculptor, with a fondness for all the Arts. Lou was a true Renaissance man: a Teacher who never lost his love of Learning, an Academic who rejoiced at the wonders of Nature, and a Scientist who found peace and fulfillment through the Arts. He was known for his intellectual curiosity, generosity, intelligence and kindness. May his memory be a blessing.
Lou is survived by his loving wife Pat; his three children Sandy (Chuck), Linda, and David (Holly), and his three grandchildren, Hannah, Leah and Eric. Services and interment will be at 9 AM on Tuesday May 20, 2025 at King David, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane. Las Vegas, NV 89120.
