Mark Coventry Norton Sr.

Mark Coventry Norton Sr., beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the home of his son, Mark C. Norton, Jr., in Boulder City, Nevada. He recently celebrated his 74th Birthday.

Mark was born May 14, 1943 in El Paso, Texas, to the late Fred W. Norton and Barbara Coventry Norton. He attended El Paso High School and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute, serving as Company Commander and promoted to Cadet Captain upon graduation in 1962. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was honorably discharged in 1965 after sustaining serious injuries from an automobile accident. Mark returned home to attend The University of Texas El Paso, earning a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1967. During college he worked as a Sales Representative at Norton Brothers, Inc., a family business originally founded by Mark’s Grandfather Fredrick W. Norton in 1907, and one of El Paso’s oldest and most reputable businesses at the time. He married Lynda Louis Stevens in 1968 and had two sons, Mark C. Norton, Jr. and William Louis Norton. He went on to become a partner in Norton Brothers in 1977 and managed the office furniture division and interior design sales.

In 1979 he married the late Charlotte Hayes and lived in El Paso’s upper valley with his two sons. He was a member of the El Paso Country Club and enjoyed hunting on the Coal Mine Ranch near Van Horn, TX. He was a member of El Paso business community throughout his life. From his career with Norton Brothers to Broadtape News, a regional newspaper distributorship, Plantation St. Clair, a popular restaurant in the upper valley in the early 1980s. He was involved in real estate and for a short time in the 1990s and was a business consultant helping firms entering the Mexico market.

In 2001 Mark moved to Austin, Texas and worked for SRS Management, owned by his life-long friend Stephen R. Smith. While there he managed the Spring Branch golf course and spent time with his son William golfing, hunting and managing a small cattle business. In 2005, he moved from Texas to Las Vegas, Nevada to be closer to his son Mark Jr. and new grandson Mark C. Norton III, who later gave him the nickname of “Pops”. They would spend a lot of time together playing golf, swimming, and camping.

Mark lived his life to the fullest. He had a great sense of humor and made friends with ease. He shared his hobbies and passions with his sons and close friends. His laughter, kindness and spirit will remain. He always stated that his proudest moments and happiest times in his life were hunting with his dad and brothers and enjoying time with his two sons and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly.

He leaves behind two sons, Mark C. Norton Jr., of Boulder City, Nevada, and his son Mark C. Norton III; William L. Norton of Austin, Texas, and his wife Lindsey Irons Norton and son Callen Irons Norton; his two brothers Charles D. Norton, of El Paso, Texas & Fred W. Norton, Jr., of El Centro, CA.; Nieces and Nephews, Joe W. Norton, Barbara Norton Poiriez, Leslie C.Walker, Charles J. Norton, Emily C. Cass, Annie N. & Clara A. Norton.

Columbarium Services will be announced soon but held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada www.Veterans.nv.gov and reception afterwards.
