Nereida Garcia

Nereida”Nery” Greer Garcia was born July 5th, 1925 in Las Minas de Matahambre, Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and on May 12th, 2019 was gloriously peacefully welcomed to our Lords Kingdom. She is preceeded by her husband, Miguel “El Gallego” Garcia, and her brother Dr. Pedro Jose Greer, Sr.

She and her family arrived from Cuba in 1960. Las Vegas has been her home since 1964. She was actively volunteering at most of all the events at BGHS, where her children and grandchildren are alumnus. She was a classic and fabulous Lady that touched everyone’s heart and that’s why she was dearly called O’Mami. She lovingly welcomed everyone to our home and were treated as family and our friends knew there was always a spot for them at the dinner table. She introduced all of them to “ Cuban” cuisine, and her signature dish was Black Beans. We'd stand next to her and write her recipe exactly as she said and no one ever came close to making them nor tasted quiet the same as the way she made it. She told her story of fleeing Cuba in 1960 and coming to USA as refugees. And we continued to talk about “those days” because she wanted us to pass it down to our children so they would know our heritage. She was a full time stay at home mom, and enjoyed her hobby, monograming gift as she did it with love.

She is survived by her sisters Nora Greer Torres and Vivian Greer Digon. Her children Silvia del Carmen Garcia Cannataro , Michael Cannataro(RIP), Miguel “Mike” Antonio Garcia (Suzanne), Nereida “Neddie” Garcia Haines. Grandchildren Jessica M. Johnson(Ivory Paul Johnson RIP), JoJo Garcia (Katerina), Christen Tina Goldston (Garyn), Courtney Taylor Garcia, Marissa Haines, Brianna Wadhams (Jimmy Wadhams ll), Curtis Billy Haines; great-grandchildren Alysson Roundy Johnson, JoJo Miguel Garcia, Silvia Victoria Garcia, Savanna and Kaiden, Jimmy Wadhams lll.

Services are Tuesday 28th, 4-7pm

Wednesday 29th Chapel services 10am

Followed by Interment
