It is with a very heavy heart that we have lost our loved one, Patrick A. K. Moniz, Jr. An endearing and devoted husband, loving and very caring father, remarkable brother, outstanding cousin, phenomenal coach and friend. Patrick had lost his battle with the Covid virus, which came suddenly and unexpectedly.
He was born to Patrick Anthony Kuulani Moniz, Sr. and Melissa Leinaala (Haa) Moniz in Frankfurt, Germany on January 29, 1973. He is the oldest of four children: Kamaile, Kamuela and Kapua.
Tampa Bay was his favorite and most memorable place of residency while his father served in the US Army. They lived on McDill Air Force Base from 1981 - 1989. Since then, Patrick has been a devoted and faithful fan of the Buccaneers.
Sports and business were Patrick's interests. He served as a coach in various capacities. During the early 2000s, you could expect to find Patrick and his sons at the Boys and Girls Club, Henderson MultiGen Center or a park in the neighborhood coaching a basketball or football team. He started a clinic, Keiki Basketball, teaching fundamentals to youth. These experiences launched his professional career in coaching. NBA stars like Gary Peyton, Ken Norman, Baron Davis and Reggie Miller, to name a few, are some of the athletes Patrick had the experience of training during their off-season. This led to eight summers of coaching at the Michael Jordan Flight Camp in Santa Barbara. Once his sons played their first season of flag football, Patrick coached teams in flag football and pop warner. Eventually he coached at the high school level for both Silverado High School and Liberty High School.
Patrick was a Radford High School Class of 1991 graduate. He married his high school sweetheart Tonia "Hana" Wailehua Moniz with 30 years of LOVE. Both raised eight beautiful children together, three sons and five daughters.
Patrick was a homegrown Native Hawaiian who lived in Las Vegas for the last 22 years. He coached many kids in the Henderson, Silverado and southern Las Vegas area with football and basketball. He was a devout Christian, Jesus Follower and just a monumental and colossal human being. His favorite pastime was being with his family. Whether it was watching a sports game, traveling, school work, cooking, swimming, grocery shopping or frequent visits to the ice cream shop, Patrick loved being with his children.
Patrick or "Lan" is survived by his wife Tonia "Hana"; sons Savon "Bully" (daughter-in-law Kate), Nickolas "Nicko" and Mana boy; daughters Meli, Tehani, Kaui, Anela and Hiwa; and granddaughters Karra and Isla Anuhea.
