Paul Stephen Giunta, 75, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away on June 23, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children, and son-in-law.
He was born on June 3, 1950, in Hartford, CT, to Alma and Rita Giunta. He spent his childhood summers at the beach in Maine with his younger sister, Andrea. When he met his wife, Jan, they discovered they had spent summers just a town apart and bonded over their love of the beach—a love he later shared on many summer trips with his children and grandchildren.
Paul participated in Boy Scouts and attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through college. In his teen years, he caddied at Wethersfield Country Club, and one of his claims to fame was caddying for Billy Casper when he won the Greater Hartford Open. Casper gifted Paul with enough money to buy his first car, a Volkswagen Bug, which he drove for many years—even after it had a hole in the floorboards.
Paul was known for passing down family recipes; his specialties were baked macaroni and braciole. Even his grandkids learned how to make them and surprised him with the dishes for Christmas dinner in 2023. He was known for his repertoire of repeated jokes, his love of golf, his appreciation for classic rock, and his enjoyment of a good book. In his younger years, Paul was also an avid runner, participating in many 10Ks.
Paul worked in the insurance industry for 51 years, beginning in the claims division of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Dallas, Houston, Bristol, and San Diego. He moved to Las Vegas in the mid-1980s and eventually became the owner of Clover Underwriters General Agency. He took great pride in assisting his clients, always finding the best fit for their needs.
Paul is survived by Jan, his wife of 52 years. They enjoyed going to concerts, playing tennis, visiting Disneyland with their kids, and hosting family outings with their grandchildren. In later years, Paul convinced Jan to give golf a try, and it became one of their favorite shared hobbies. They were longtime members of the Las Vegas Country Club and met wonderful people through their golfing community. Through Paul’s awards in the insurance industry, they were able to travel to places like Puerto Rico and Hawaii, among others.
He is also survived by his two children: Meghan (Matt Plourde) and Ryan (Jessica Giunta). Paul’s presence will always be felt most when they hear a classic rock playlist or see one of his favorite movies on TV. Paul loved quoting lines from some of those films. Meghan and Ryan will always treasure the memories of this past Father’s Day, which they spent with him cracking jokes and sharing stories from his hospital bed.
Grandpa Paul is also survived by his six grandchildren—Jack, Katie, Graham, Erin, Lauren, and Jeremy—who all knew his card tricks and jokes by heart. Paul had fond memories of time spent with Jan’s siblings and their spouses. He is also survived by his sister, Andrea Reffler.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12 at 3:00 PM at Palm Mortuary Southwest, 7979 W. Warm Springs Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89113. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at St. Rose Hospital Siena Campus and Dignity Rehab for their care and kindness.
Paul will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
