Raffella Ann Farina was born on October 1, 1944 to Theresa Gloria Figundio and Joseph Daniel Farina. Rae Ann was a feisty New Yorker who grew up in a roughBrooklyn neighborhood in her family’s caring home on Carol Street. Rae Ann married the love of her life Louis Michael Scagnelli on November 14, 1964. Together they raised three happy and successful children, to whom Rae Ann was a devoted stay-at-home mother during their many lively and joyful years in Hazlet, New Jersey and later in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her extravagant, multi-course Sunday dinners became legendary.
When her kids were grown, Rae Ann pursed her education with wholehearted determination. She began by earning an Associate of Arts in 1991 from theCommunity College of Southern Nevada; next, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas; and at last, she achieved a Master’s Degree of Social Work from UNLV. Armed with her advanced degree and new license, Rae Ann set out to save the world. She practiced social work for many years with incredible passion and genuine care—as evidenced by the many times she gave away her own family furnishings to others in need!
Rae Ann will be missed tremendously by all who knew her, most especially by those who know her simply as Mom and Grams. Rae Ann will continue to be loved and remembered for her passionate spirit, unique style, strong Brooklyn accent, delicious home cooking, horrible handwriting, keen bargain shopping, devoted lifelong friendships, a ridiculous collection of Birkenstock sandals, the many misspellings of her name and countless other passions and endearing qualities. But mostly, Rae Ann will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and friends. One of her last great shared joys was a sonogram of her great granddaughter to be.
Rae Ann said many times that she didn’t want a funeral, she wanted a happy celebration. Sharing your many wonderful memories will help to keep her spirit and memory alive for generations to come. Please join us in a celebration of her life onFriday December 7, 2018 at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas,Nevada.
